Suzanne Braun Levine thinks turning fifty is the “beginning of the beginning.” In this empowering video, she talks about why she believes “Second Adulthood” can be almost more interesting and enjoyable than our first.
Suzanne points out that at around age fifty, we enter a life transition as profound and far-reaching as adolescence. “We are the first generation to contemplate the fact that at fifty, we have as many years of adult life ahead of us as behind us,” she says. This requires some serious thought, and some serious letting go. She quotes Gloria Steinem, who said the new Golden Rule is this:
Do unto yourselves as you have been doing for others.
I’ll keep this short so you have time to watch the video. Believe me, it’s inspiring and entertaining, and it will make you laugh, too. Enjoy!

I enjoyed the video and the comments. I am 57 and in a c/l relationship for the last 7 years. It isn’t going so well for me anyhow. Just not sure if that is me and not appreciating the good points of my partner. So much has happened in 7 years. A lot of health issues for me so wishing there really was a relationship physic to tell which way to go. I realised watching this that I have a lot of years left to live and where do I want to be and how do I want to live them. I will contemplate this thought.

Wow ,Lynne. Thanks for sharing this spot-on message delivered with humor and wisdom. I loved it! How could I ever have known at 50 that a diagnosis of cancer would signal “the beginning of the beginning.”

Thanks so much, Lynne! I would have hated to have missed this. It feels so good to hear someone else articulate many of the crazy-feeling thoughts bouncing around in my brain. I don’t know this lady, but she is my new crush, lol. (Don’t be afraid, Suzanne. I’m not a stalker.) 🙂

You were right: this video made me laugh! For some funny reason I still cannot understand, it also made me shed a tear. And now I am ready to start my day with a big smile. Thank you, Lynne! Have a nice day, you too!

Monica, it made me laugh when I saw that she was all ready to fight the people who would make her climb back up but they just said, eh, whatever. There’s the path. Which seems like a metaphor for so much of what happens to us in our lives due to our own choosing!
