I loved this article in Slate.com: Retirement Entrepreneurs. The article features some of the folks for whom retirement isn’t enough, in this senior community of 8,500 residents. Whether they need the money or a means to be of service, they’ve invented small businesses that benefit themselves and the community. It’s a fun and inspiring read.
Have a nice weekend!

I love seeing that kind of news, Lynne, thanks for posting. If you notice, seems like the women have more get up and go than the men, hmmmm? 🙂

I DID notice that, Vonnie, and I wondered if the women were more into it or if the writer focused (subconsciously or not) on the women primarily?
BTW my husband Bill works sporadically in just that kind of job. We live in a 55+ community and there are a lot of older folks who don’t want to drive to far locations anymore, or maybe are ill and can’t. They just need a ride to a doctor appt. or grocery store, etc. Bill and his friend provide this service. Bill says he doesn’t feel right just being retired. He needs to feel he’s of service somewhat. The money just covers gas and wear/tear on the vehicle, so it’s not about the big bucks! He likes helping. I’m really proud of him.

Interesting article but this Baby Boomer is ready to get off the treadmill and follow other passions. So rather than calling it retiring, I ‘d rather think of it as transitioning into something where I can still make a contribution but more on my own terms.. Thanks for the link,Lynne!

What an uplifting article, Lynne! That’s just what I’m talking about — if you’ve got your health and your mental faculties, there’s no reason you can’t work as long as you live, if you want to. Who said we’re entitled to sit on our butts after a certain age anyway? Redefining the second half of life is something the Baby Boom Generation will be good at!
