I freaked out a while back, because I learned something in therapy about why I work so hard all the time.
Really Excited About This Upcoming Novel!
You all know I lost two years of writing due to intense family drama. But now everything’s settled and I’m back! My stand-alone novel, We Did This Once Before, is at the editor’s and the cover designer is ready to jump on it when I say the word. The novel is about a midlife woman who agrees to move back in with her ailing mother but then realizes she’s going to have to fight all over again for her independence. The novel asks how much of ourselves we’re willing to give, how much of our lives must be sacrificed for others, and how do you decide? Launching soon! What the Very Elderly Can Teach Us
Aging is complicated. I often speak about positive aging, about the good stuff that comes with age if we’re not too fearful to appreciate it. But the fact is, a lot of the good happens in your brain. Strange how the aging brain seems to get stronger.
On the other hand, the body falls apart.

Birthday Reinvention!
For my sixtieth birthday I’m celebrating by giving my blog a facelift! It may be off-air for a week or two, but after that it’ll be better than ever, with a sharper look and more features. In addition to blogging about the amazing second half of life, with all the wonder and weirdness of middle-age and beyond, I’ll be posting book reviews, and talking about the writing and marketing process. My goal is to make the website easier to see and more enjoyable to navigate. So don’t be concerned if AnyShinyThing.com goes dark for a few days or weeks. This is the season of resurrection, after all.
I wish you the most joyous Easter and Springtime. Here’s an uplifting video from Laura Carstensen, a social scientist who spoke at TedX Women, for your viewing pleasure. See you soon! XOXOXO
